Weldon's Reversible Edging
This pattern from 1888 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, volume 2, had no original image, so the result was a surprise! Weldon labeled it “Wide Leaf Edging” but I don’t really see a leaf. The pattern has a 16-row repeat. The wrong-side rows are mostly knit stitches. I fixed errors, modified stitches and separated the row instructions into sections for easier knitting.
Skills needed: long tail cast-on, knit, slip, purl, slip-slip-knit-2-together (SSK), yarn over and bind-off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able thread/yarn and any size needles will work.
Make a swatch to check the look and width of your work.
10 yards of #10 crochet cotton will make about 32 rows (2 repeats or 2.5 inches) of edging at 11.5 sts/inch and 13 rows/inch.
