A welt is a raised fabric contrasted with a smooth background. In this project the garter stitch welts are forced into soft waves by the increases and decreases of the chevron stitch pattern. This cowl design includes instruction for using different yarn weights and needle sizes as well as technique for continuous use of working yarn. Knit in the round on circular needles, the number of cast on stitches and pattern repeats vary to achieve a consistently sized cowl regardless of yarn choice. Suggestion: To accentuate the welts use a contrasting color yarn for the chevron stitch section. Binding off in pattern maintains the angular chevron motif. This project is a quick gift as well as a stash buster. There are 5 cowl options in this pattern. Dimension: approximately 26” circumference, 8” wide. Total Yarn: 219 yards DK weight OR 160 yards light worsted weight OR 172 yards worsted weight OR 157 yards chunky weight OR 137 yards super chunky weight. (Pattern includes yardage for two-color choice. Ex: For DK weight-120 yards main color and 99 yards contrasting color) Gauge ranges between 3-5 sts/in.
