The geometric zigzags and squishable texture of Westerly Gale remind me of a stiff wind skidding over rippling wavetops.
Westerly Gale is an asymmetrical triangular shawl worked from one tip to the opposite edge. The main body is worked in a knit-and-purl checkerboard stitch pattern. The wide border along the final edge combines mosaic knitting with slipped stitch cables. Only one color of yarn is worked at a time, while other stitches are slipped to make the colorwork pattern.
Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but using a different yarn weight or needle size will affect the size of the finished shawl and the amount of yarn needed.
Instructions for two sizes are both written and charted.
