The pattern provides instructions to knit the brim with a woven appearance but you could easily substitute ribbing.

The whales are knit using the stranding technique with the water spouts and eyes added in duplicate stitch.

You will need 1 ball of dark blue (approx. 170 yds / 155 m) and 1 ball of light blue (approx 80 yds / 75 m). A small amount of white is needed for the eyes and water spouts.

Measurements - Circumference, unstretched: 15” (39 cm) / Height 6 1/2” (16 1/2 cm)

The hat is knit in a circular manner. Depending on which technique you are most comfortable with you can use either double pointed needles throughout or a circular needle plus double pointed needles.

Written instructions are given along with the chart for the whale in one PDF document.
