The whale’s breach evokes awe and a sense of joy – as if they’re leaping just to greet you! Capture that wonder by knitting this pair of traditional Nordic mittens in two-colour work. Pattern elements include a deep cuff, shaped thumb gusset, and braided trim.

These mittens are one-size-fits-most. When testing the pattern, and sharing samples among friends, I found that the mittens fit most women’s hand sizes, even when we wear different glove sizes. But, just in case, the pattern notes include suggestions for accommodating fit issues.

Exact gauge is not essential for this pattern: indicated gauge is more of a guideline than a hidebound rule. If you knit socks, then you will probably knit these mittens in the same size needles.

Yarn options include any fingering weight yarn, in two contrasting colours. The mittens shown were made in Briggs & Little Sport (first pair) and DROPS Alpaca (second pair).
