Ever since I figured out this pattern of my great-great-grandmother’s, I had the idea for this baby blanket in my head. One of the first things I did when I found out I was pregnant was go out and buy yarn for it. I wanted to make a blanket for my baby, but I didn’t want to wait to find out if it was a boy or a girl. The double sided pattern allowed me to make a nice, warm blanket for a boy and a girl at the same time.

It’s a totally reversible pattern and makes a nice heavy blanket for the cold winter months. Essentially, it is two loosely-crochet pieces crocheted together simultaneously. The original pattern had fringe, but since I personally don’t care for it, I chose to add a little bit of my own style in with my grandma’s.

This is a very flexible pattern. You can easily adjust it to be any size by changing the gauge or by adding/removing stitches or rows. You can use lighter weight yarn for a blanket that’s thick, but not quite as heavy. You can add stripes to it or add more colors to make it even more complex…the possibilities are endless!

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback on this pattern, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I have no delusions that the patterns I write are perfect.
