The winding cables on these socks were inspired by Celtic designs that I saw featured recently in a documentary called The Celts: Blood, Iron, & Sacrifice. These Iron Age warriors would adorn their jewelry, clothing, and even their weapons with the most intricate designs, all shaped by hand and sometimes on a near-microscopic scale. Their work was incredibly creative and inspiring.
These socks are worked starting at the toe using the Turkish Cast-On method, and working upward toward the cuff, using the Fleegle Heel method to shape the heel. The cables along the front and back of the sock are worked using charts (one chart for the foot, one chart for the leg; all sizes use the same two charts).
The instructions are written to accommodate the magic loop method but are easily worked using double-pointed-needles if preferred!
