Where the Mountain Meets the Moon
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a semicircular shawl with a little bit of everything: lace, texture, cables, and some Estonian gathered stitches.
The design begins with a central flower of twisted rib, shifts into a gradually expanding Japanese lace & stitch with reverse stockinette details, then returns to twisted rib to complete the journey.
- The pattern is predominantly charts only, however the first 24 rows have also been written out to get you started.
- The shawl is offered in one main size, however it can be extended a little to make use of remaining yardage, and extra wedges can be added to increase the width.
- The design suits lace to sport weight yarn, of solid, semi solid, very subtle speckle, or gradient colouring.
Yardage requirements: these will vary with yarn weight & tension - allow up to 800m for lace weight, 800-900 for fingering, and 1100-1200m for sport weight (or fingering with extra repeat). Adjust needle size to suit your preferred gauge. Note: my sample tested an optional variant of 4 wedges. This formed a half circle, whereas 5 wedges makes a shape that wears more easily and stays on the shoulders.
The name comes from a wonderful series of books by Grace Lin which weaves stories within stories within stories, yet never loses its thread.
