Whimsical & Magical Crown
Knitting this magical crown for your little one is a great way to spend an evening in front of the television. I knit two of these over the course of two evenings, each one taking just about 2 and a half hours from cast on to cast off. Because the crown is such a fast knit, it would be great for a present, too!
YARN
The suggested yarn is Big Twist Living in “Fun Brights”.
Any worsted or aran weight yarnw ill do!
If you choose the suggested yarn, you’ll need 1 skein. The project uses 40-50 yards (it’s a great stash buster!).
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 8 / 5.0 mm needles. I used a 16” circular, but DPBs will work, too.
You will need a tapestry needle, small scissors, and 7 stitch markers (one should be contrasting from the rest to indicate the start of the round).
GAUGE
16 stitches and 14 rows in 2”, using stockinette as the basis for gauge. This is unstretched.
SIZING
Two sizes -
• Little Kid – 8” across and 3.5” (from the tip of a crown point to the base) when laid flat
• Big Kid – 9.5” across and 3.5” (from the tip of a crown point to the base) when laid flat
NOTES
Construction: the crown is knit from the top down, beginning with the crown points, working down the body of the crown and ending with a garter stitch edging.
I LOVE seeing people knit my patterns and make them their own - if you could tag @charminglymodern and #MagicalCrown on Instagram or Facebook that would be great!
