Whimsical Garden Bug Crochet Baby Blanket - designed by Joanita Theron

A whimsical garden bug inspired blanket. Four friendly bugs each housed in their own little corner of the garden surrounded by a flower border.

Difficulty Level | Skills Required
Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate

Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.

You will need to know basic stitches like SC (single crochet) and DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and provided in the instructions.

Slip Stitch sewing for appliques.

Materials
Hook – 3, 50 mm (E)
Scissors
Yarn needle
An assortment of buttons and ribbons (given with each square)

Yarn:
Yarn – any DK (Acrylic or Cotton) is recommended. Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
For this project I used the following:
Please note – this is only an approximate – you might need more or less depending on your yarn and tension.
Elle - Family Knit Classic Double Knit 50 grams / 164 yards / 150 meters x 13 balls.

Approx – 659 grams / 2132 yards / 1950 meters
For this project I used an assortment of colors.

Yarn Substitute:
Using the same type of yarn throughout the project is recommended. The pattern suggests DK yarn (Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light Worsted), but you are not limited to this type of yarn. Any yarn can be used if you take into consideration your sizing for the project will differ.

Tension | Gauge
Gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However COUNTING your stitches and equal sized squares will ensure a true success of this project!

Size
Final Blanket Size:
Without Flower Border - Approx. Length = 70 cm x 70 cm (28 x 28 inches)
With Flower Border - Approx. Length = 80 cm x 80 cm (32 x 32 inches)

Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your blanket will be a different size!
