Whipped Lolly
This hat was started during the 2010 Olympics as a personal challenge to complete the Ravelympics Designer Biathlon. After working on a couple other hats for submissions to various magazines and books, inspiration for this one came to me one morning, was shared with Lolly (she and her husband were staying with us), and then cast on at The Whip restaurant during an Olympic knitters gathering, hence “Whipped Lolly”!
Knit flat from the bottom up, this is a good first hat and the wide ribbing makes it fit a variety of head sizes. Three lengths are offered, Average, Long and Extended. No seaming, the hat is held closed by the buttons.
Buttons can be worn to the front, back or side, and any extra length can be left at the top for a classic Canadian toque look, or pulled down and folded up!
Special thanks to my beloved testers! These knitters jumped into action in the last two days of the Olympics to help me release the pattern with more sets of eyes on the instructions and numbers:
