Whirlwind Poncho
The Whirlwind Poncho is not only a mini poncho but can also be worn as a cowl. Worked from the top down. Great for beginners, as a first garment project or a quick project for an experienced crocheter to give as a gift or keep for themselves. Made by holding two worsted weight yarns held together, it makes for a perfect stash busting project.
Techniques used includes, working in the round, foundation double crochet, double crochet, and increasing.
Can be made with two Aran Weight strands, two Worsted Weight strands of yarn held together or using one bulky strand of yarn by itself. Each will result in a different type of garment. The Aran weight will create a more open and lighter fabric (pictured here), while the worsted will be a bit denser and stitches will be more prominent. The bulky weight will create a dense fabric with high stitch definition. I have made a combination of them all through the years and they have made great gifts.
