Whirlygig is an easy to knit beret pattern in three sizes, which invites to play with color. Though using only 4-ply yarn, the construction of the pattern provides more strength in the fabric as usual. It simply needs a small amount of yarn in two contrasting colors. Due to slip stitch columns you always have only one color to knit with.
The pattern includes instructions for making the tam more slouchy.

Whirlygig ist eine leicht zu strickende Basken-Mütze in drei Größen, die zum Spiel mit kräftigen Farben einlädt, aber auch Ton in Ton ihren Reiz hat. Obwohl Garn in Sockengarnstärke verwendet wird, hat die fertige Mütze durch ihre Struktur eine gewisse Festigkeit. Sie benötigt nur eine geringe Menge Garn in Kontrastfarben, bevorzugt reine Merinowolle. Die senkrechten Stege entstehen durch Hebemaschen, wodurch es möglich ist, in den Runden mit jeweils nur einer Garnfarbe zu stricken und dennoch schöne Farbeffekte zu erzielen.
Das Strickmuster enthält Hinweise, um die Mütze weiter bzw. „slouchy“ zu machen.
