Whiskey Barrel Beanie is a simple bottom up, in the round, stockinette knit beanie with a unique side laying braid element; let’s call it “Cheater’s Braid.” Why call it Cheater’s Braid? Because this is a very easy “cheat” to replace the complicated stitch work used in other types of braids.

The pattern is written for three yarn weights (Super Bulky, Bulky, and Worsted). The pattern is written for an adult sized beanie, but once you get the braid technique, the size is also customizable.

The options for customization go as far as your imagination will allow. The number and placement of the braids is totally customizable. Don’t want to deal with colorwork? Cool, you can do one color! Have tons of scraps you need to use up? Great, every braid can be different! Want different colors between the stripes! Awesome, do it!
