Knit seamlessly from the top down, this airy little capelet will keep your shoulders warm on cool summer nights. Choose your size based on the fit you’d like: for a garment that hugs your shoulders, choose a size that gives a bit of negative ease based on your shoulder circumference, or for a size that just floats over your shoulders, aim for zero ease or a bit of positive ease. (Shoulder circumference is measured around the tops of your arms with your arms by your sides.) Sample shown modeled with no ease around the shoulders.
Skills required:
• Long-tail cast-on
• Knitting in the round
• Yarn overs
• Decreasing
• Increasing
Gauge:
16 stitches and 28 rounds in 4 inches of blocked stockinette. Because this is knit on large needles, there is a lot of give in the fabric, and your gauge can change a great deal depending on how aggressively you block.
Materials:
• Approximately 450 (500, 530) yards of lace-weight yarn. Sample was knit in Knit Picks Shadow (100% merino)
• US 8/5 mm circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. You will need to start on a 16” cable
• US 6/4 mm circular needles, or size 2 sizes smaller than gauge needles, in a 16” length for the lace at the neckline only
• Stitch marker
• Tape measure
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Sample knit in Knit Picks Shadow in Basalt Heather.
