Whispering Wind Cardi
This lightweight, airy cardigan is designed to show off beautifully colored yarns. A simple sideways construction creates an oversized and drapey layering piece that brings summer wardrobe staples into the spring and fall. The shape is similar to a kimono, but shorter - just past hip length. Solid sections alternate with a lace that is eye-catching but not so busy that it detracts from the hand painted and kettle dyed yarns.
The Whispering Wind Cardi is constructed sideways from two rectangular panels. Each panel is worked from the center outward so they mirror each other when seamed (up the back and along the side body).
Level: Intermediate. This pattern uses a simple construction and only double crochet except for a single crochet bottom edging.
Yarn: Two colors of fingering (1) weight yarn. Sample used WeCrochet Hawthorne in Delphinium (CA) and Blueberry Speckle (CB). Estimated yardage: 527 (659, 774, 1161) CA and 963 (1284, 1508, 2514) CB for Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4)
Sizing: Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) to fit actual bust measurement (28-38”, 40-44”, 45-51”, 52-62”) or (71-96.5, 102-112, 114-129.5, 132-157.5) cm. Intended ease varies by size because cardigan covers much of back arms as well, but ranges anywhere from 7” to 25”. See full size chart (last photo) for more details about sizing.
Important sizing note: I was unable to get testers for size 4. One of my first-round testers made the original version of that size, which was the same width but shorter, and encountered no errors. However, I would much prefer to test it properly as currently written. If you are interested in testing that size, please send me a message!
