White Turtle Dove
Two Turtle Doves are part of “The Twelve days of Christmas” song. This pattern was designed to make two turtle doves for a lovely Christmas tree ornament, or gift.
You’ll need a small amount of 8 ply yarn in white or the colour of your choice. This project is good for using up those leftover balls of yarn from other projects. You’ll also need a small amount of stuffing and a darning needle.
The pattern is knitted on straight needles, in one piece. My knitting is tight so I used 3.00mm needles, you may need smaller needles to get the correct tension.
The PDF for the pattern includes pictures for each step and abbreviations.
The pattern includes instructions for the following stitches: k2tog, p2tog, sl1, kfb, ssk, ssp, w&t.
The most awkward stitch in the pattern is: ssp (slip, slip, purl). I’ve included a detailed explanation to accomplish this stitch as well as pictures.
I hope you enjoy making these little birds.
