The Whitewater Rapids Fingerless Mitts are inspired by churning river rapids. These socks reflect the water’s turbulence and irregularly-interrupted flow with deliberately twisted elongated stitches offset from each other in a disorderly pattern. No unusual techniques are required to make this visually striking effect!

Pattern Description

These fingerless mitts use knitwise slipping of long, elongated stitches to twist them as they lie on top of the fabric. Those elongated stitches also highlight the subtle colour details we all love in handpainted yarns. They also feature twisted rib cuffs and an adjustable thumb gusset.

This pattern requires the knitter to be able to knit a small circumference in the round and clearly explains all techniques required. Within the pattern you will find links to useful video tutorials as well, so the pattern is easily accessible to an intermediate knitter. Corresponding written instructions are provided for the chart.

Yarn Requirements and Sizing

Sizes available: Adult Small (Medium, Large) for wrist circumferences of 18 (20, 22) cm / 7 (7.87, 8.67) inches; this corresponds to the following standard sizes: Women’s S/M (Women’s L/Men’s S, Men’s M/L)

These mitts have interchangeable thumb gussets for a comfortable custom fit in any size.

The mitts require approximately 170 (190, 210) m / 185 (210, 230) yards of fingering weight sock yarn.

The texture used in this pattern works with nearly any colourway, since it stands out on a solid colour, but also pulls out subtle dye details and breaks up pooling.
