Whitgift is a triangular shawl with an unusual construction

It begins with a panel which forms the centre point of the triangle. Stiches are then picked up along the edges of this panel to knit the first wing all the way to the tip and then again for the second wing of the shawl. Finally stitches are picked up along the top edge to knit the top border. This means that the majority of the rows are fairly short with just the final section consisting of longer rows

Each wing has brioche sections, texture sections and lace sections. The brioche sections are mostly plain brioche rib with simple decreases. Links are provided to tutorials for the brioche stitches used along with an explanation of how to work the stitch.
Because of the wide range of techniques used this pattern would be most suited to intermediate level knitters

Yarn
Fingering weight yarn in at least two colours
My sample used Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles in the approximate amounts
Colour A: Seed – 90g/329m/359y
Colour B: Sorry Not Sorry – 60g/219m/239y

Some testers found that they needed more yarn, particularly for Colour A. If you wish to keep the colour sequence as written then I would suggest you have around 400 yards available for Colour A

Size and Gauge
Gauge is not crucial in this project but will affect the size of the shawl and the yardage used. The sample is approximately 240cm/94.5” long by 45cm/18” deep.
Gauge: 23sts and 28rows per 10cm/4” in stocking stitch after blocking

Because this pattern has several different stitches and textures it is very unlikely that you will be able to get the same gauge as the sample in every section and therefore there will be some variation in the size of the shawl

The pattern has both written and charted instructions for the lace and texture sections. The brioche sections are written only. If you would like a larger print version then please let me know
