Whitman Sampler is available in knitCompanion.
Whitman Sampler may not be a chocolate confection, but it is a knitted one. Two separate strips are knit on the bias and then joined together with a three-needle purl bind off. Decorative rolled stockinette edges are picked up and knit in the round to complete the cowl. Each strip begins with two cast on stitches, which are increased into a triangle, followed by stripes and borders. Some of the borders are plain and others have a simple slipped stitch design to make them more interesting.
There are two samplers picture. Sampler 1, uses uses Iris, Mineral, Dahlia and Glazed Pecan, with borders in Fathom. It is the one in the first, third, fourth and top of the last to photos. The color placement is random. Sampler 2 uses Dahlia, Jade, Glazed Pecan and Cobalt with Onyx for the border. It is shown in the second picture and on the bottom in the last two pictures. Each strip is identical in terms of color placement. Whitman Sampler can be knit in up to eight colors and a border color. Yardage requirements below are for two identical strips. If you plan to use more than four colors, you will need approximately half the yardage given below for each time you use the color. The border yardage remains the same regardless of the number of colors used. This is a great project for using up leftover bits of stash!
The pattern is written out and includes coloring schematics so you can try out colors before committing to them on the needle. If you can knit, pick up and knit, bind off and knit in the round, this will be a fairly easy project for you. The three-needle purl bind off is fully explained.
