A delicately patterned sock in three women’s sizes ~ the stitch pattern is worked on the front and back of the leg and top of the foot; notice how the ribbing flows into the main pattern; heel is worked in Eye of Partridge in the sock/fingering yarn version and slipped-stitch in the sport-weight version; sole is knit in Stockinette; wedge toe.

The pattern directions are written for double-pointed needles with instructions provided for modifications for 2 circulars and Magic Loop.

~ to fit foot circumference 8 ½ (9, 9 ½)” / 21.5 (23, 24) cm; ~ finished sock circumference 7 ½ (8, 8 ½)” / 19 (20.5, 21.5) cm

Yarn
260 (300, 340) yds / 238 (274, 310) m fingering / sock weight; sample: 2 skeins Knit Picks Gloss Fingering (220 yds / 201 m per 1 ¾ oz / 50 g skein; 70% merino, 30% silk) in Winter Night; for most durable results, use a yarn with some nylon content

Needles
Adjust needles to obtain correct gauge.
3 mm / US 2.5 (for cast on only)
2.5mm / US 1.5 set of 4 dpn or 2 circulars or 1 circular 32” / 80 cm or longer for Magic Loop

Gauge
28 sts / 38 rows = 4” /10 cm in Stockinette on smaller needles after blocking

Stitch markers, cable needle, stitch holder, tapesty needle

Method
Cuff down, knit in the round; wedge toe is grafted; stitch patterns are both charted and written out

Techniques
1/1 cables, double yarn-over, knit 2 together, knit through back of loop, pick up stitches, slip stitches, slip-slip-knit; portions of the design have patterning every row; Kitchener stitch (grafting)
