Wicker
SO much squish! The fabric this stitch creates is luxurious and double-thick making a warm and comfortable hat which is still lightweight and airy due to its structure. Wicker is best with a semi-solid or lightly speckled yarn; gradients would also work well. This is a cable stitch, but a tutorial has been included to show you how to work it without using a separate cable needle if you wish - a great time-saver.
Uses approx 150yd of DK 8ply merino or wool. You will need a 3.5mm and a 5mm needle on 40cm cables, longer cable for magic loop or 5mm DPNs for the crown, and a cable needle (optional).
Size suits most teen/adults due to its stretch. For a larger beanie, use 10ply worsted weight yarn and go up 1/2 needle size for brim and pattern. Work one extra pattern repeat if necessary for extra height.
This beanie makes a matched set with WICKERWORK cowl and just 2 x100g skeins of DK will be enough to make both pieces. If making the set, knit the beanie first as its yardage is fixed; the cowl will use up all the remaining yarn.
