Wicker Park Slouch Hat & Mittens
Stay warm while looking cool this winter in the Wicker Park Slouch Hat & Mittens Set. Though named for Chicago’s “hipster” neighborhood, “wicker” is also reminiscent of the textured stitch used above the ribbing in both the hat and the mittens. The color work is the simplest kind, using slipped stitches so you never have to work with more than one color in each row.
“Adventurous Beginner” Techniques include:
Increases / Decreases (detailed, illustrated article link is given in the pattern in addition to the written description)
working in the round (and working flat for a very short time)
slipping stitches
Kitchener Stitch (mittens only)
Hat is sized for 18” (19”, 20”, 21”, 22”) and should fit with approximately 1” of negative ease.
Hat is worked on US size 5 needles with a dimple stitch gauge of 30 sts x 45 rows = 4” x 4”.
Total hat yardage is between 270 and 371 yds (if using 2 colors, MC is approximately 2/3 the yardage and CC is approximately 1/3.)
Mittens are sized for 2yrs (3/4 yrs, 5-7 yrs, 8-11, yrs, adult small, adult med). You should knit the hand circumference that most closely matches your actual hand circumference (those numbers are listed in the pattern)
Mittens are worked on US size 3 needles with a stockinette stitch gauge of 26 sts x 40 rows = 4” x 4”.
Total yardage for a set of mittens is between 143 - 330 yds (if using 2 colors, MC is approximately 80% of the yardage and CC is approximately 20%.)
