Widdergaets is a sleeveless slipover with a deep border pattern of turning motifs, and contrast rib neck and armhole borders. It’s a companion to the Widdershins headband (also available on Ravelry.)

I knitted mine on 2.75mm and the chest measures 38” / 96cm. The first time I knitted Widdergaets, I used 3.5mm needles, and it was measuring approx 46” / 120cm round - so I have endeavoured to show my workings out, and give some help in the pattern on different sizes using smaller (2mm or 2.5mm) or larger (3mm,3.25mm or 3.5mm) needles, or a different number of repeats of the chart. (The chart is 24 stitches /31 rounds and measures approx 4” x 5” / 10cm x 12.5cm.) If you buy the pattern, and would like some help with calculations and sizing, please do get in touch - I’ll help you all I can. I find Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift has quite a range of suitable needle sizes, and, because the yarn has a lot of give, you can block garments a little larger too. (If you like the design but are wary of the sizing, do please get in touch anyway.)

My Widdergaets is quite boxy and short - you could knit it longer in the body, and I think another time I would make the armholes a little deeper, so I offer some ideas about that in the pattern.

I used 4 balls of eclipse and about 1 and a half of emerald. If you make your slipover longer, or do your borders in the main colour rather than contrast, you’ll need more eclipse.
