WIG WAM is a loose fitting top-down sweater that comes in three sizes => S, M and L.
It starts with an i-cord and a few short rows for the back neck shaping. And then the fun begins => the big yoke that is meant to be knit in a self striping yarn ! Once the yoke is finished it is plain knitting in your main colour only – have some more fun at the lower hem by adding some short rows for a longer back first and another round of smaller WIG WAMs. All hems are finished with a neat i-cord bind-off.

The original sample was knit with Dundaga 6/2 – a pretty rustic yarn that comes in neutrals and beautiful selfstriping colours. Ravelry classifies it as “sport weight” – but it is pretty stiff and knits up like a worsted weight. But it is possible to use any yarn – why not try NORO Kureyon as contrasting colour combined with de rerum natura Gilliatt as main colour ? Even a version with two solid colours would look really nice …

Man beginnt mit einem i-Cord und ein paar verkürzten Reihen, um den rückwärtigen Halsausschnitt zu formen. Danach beginnt das Vergnügen => die große Passe – idealerweise aus einem bunten Farbverlaufsgarn ! Nach der Passe wird es wieder einfacher – und einfarbig – bis am unteren Saum wieder verkürzte Reihen gestrickt werden, die dafür sorgen, dass der Rücken länger ist, als das Vorderteil. Den Abschluss bilden noch ein paar kleine “WIG WAMs”.
Das Original wurde aus Dundaga 6/2 gestrickt – einem sehr rustikalen Garn, das es sowohl in neutralen Farben, als auch in bunten Farbverlaufstönen gibt. Bei Ravelry wird es als “sport weight” klassifiziert – da es aber sehr “steif” ist, verhält es sich eher wie ein Garn der Kategorie “worsted weight”. Natürlich kann jedes andere Garn verwendet werden, mit dem man die geforderte Maschenprobe erzielt – wie wäre es mit NORO Kureyon kombiniert mit de rerum natura Gilliatt als Hauptfarbe ? Aber auch eine Version aus zwei einfarbigen Garne sieht sehr toll aus …
