Wild at Heart
Wild at Heart is a one-skein asymmetrical triangular shawl knitted in fingering-weight yarn with a very simple garter and eyelet pattern perfect for showing off your wildest skein. You know you have that one skein in your stash that is so crazy you don’t know what to do with it! Show off your wild side with Wild at Heart!
I designed Wild at Heart to be a very quick and easy pattern with a simple eyelet stitch that will not get lost if you choose a crazy, variegated yarn. Experienced knitters should find it exceedingly easy to knit this little shawl. It could also be a great first asymmetrical triangular shawl for ambitious beginners.
Pattern includes a chart for the eyelet section as well as written instructions.
Stripe version is available here Wild at Heart Stripe
Pattern has been reworded for clarity and updated as of Feb 1 2023.
Needles and Notions: US size 6 (4.0 mm), or size to obtain gauge, 24–32 in/60–81 cm circular needle recommended.
The pattern is written to maximize your yardage. A small kitchen scale to weigh yarn would be handy.
Yarn & Yardage: 400 yd/366 m (or more) fingering weight merino or blend.
Sample used: Spun Right Round SW Sock (80% SW Merino 20% Nylon, 400 yd/366 m/100 g), 1 skein, Parakeet Feet colorway.
Gauge: In garter stitch, 20 sts and 42 rows per 4 in/10 cm (unblocked). 18 sts and 36 rows per 4 in/10 cm
(blocked). Exact gauge not crucial, but a large discrepancy in gauge, especially row gauge, will affect yarn usage.
Final Measurements: Measurements will vary depending on your gauge and yardage used, but the sample pictured measures 76 in/193 cm wingspan, 14 in/35.5 cm depth. Measurements taken after blocking.
Pattern has been test knitted and tech edited.
Thank you and happy knitting!
If you received a hard copy of this pattern at Vogue Knitting Live please note there is an error in Eyelet row B. It should read as follows: Row B (WS): K1, SSK, p until 2 sts remain, KFB, k1. Just change that k to a p and you are all set. (or just download the latest version here!) I apologize for any inconvenience.
