Wild at Heart Stripe
Wild at Heart Stripe is an asymmetrical triangular shawl knitted in fingering-weight yarn with a very simple garter stripe and eyelet pattern perfect for showing off your wildest skein. You know you have that one skein in your stash that is so crazy you don’t know what to do with it! Pair it with a mini-skein in a contrasting solid or tonal – or even a contrasting variegated yarn! Show off your wild side with Wild at Heart Stripe!
I designed Wild at Heart Stripe to be a very quick and easy pattern with a simple eyelet stitch that will not get lost if you choose a crazy, variegated yarn. Experienced knitters should find it exceedingly easy to knit this little shawl. It could also be a great first asymmetrical triangular shawl for ambitious beginners. A “sock set” would work perfectly with this shawl, as long as there is some contrast between the two colors in the set.
Pattern includes a chart for the eyelet section as well as written instructions.
I have another version without stripes which can be found here Wild at Heart.
Needles and Notions: US size 6 (4.0 mm), or size to obtain gauge, 24–32 in/60–81 cm circular needle recommended.
The pattern is written to maximize your yardage. A small kitchen scale to weigh yarn would be handy.
Yarn & Yardage: MC: At least 400 yd/366 m fingering weight merino or blend.
CC: At least 87 yd/80 m fingering weight merino or blend.
Suggested Yarn: MC: The Lemonade Shop Simple Sock (80% SW Merino 20% Nylon, 400 yd/366 m/100 g),
1 skein, Toxic Oreo colorway.
CC: Black Sheep Dyeworks Sock (100% Superwash Merino Wool, 87 yd/80 m/20 g), 1 skein, Near Black colorway.
Gauge: In garter stitch, 22 sts and 46 rows per 4 in/10 cm (unblocked). 20 sts and 33 rows per 4 in/10 cm
(blocked). Exact gauge not crucial, but a large discrepancy in gauge, especially row gauge, will affect yarn usage.
Final Measurements: Measurements will vary depending on your gauge and yardage used, but the sample pictured measures 70 in/178 cm wingspan, 15 in/38 cm depth.
Measurements taken after blocking.
Pattern has been test knitted and tech edited.
Thank you and happy knitting!
