Never boring, this pattern will knit up quickly, and keep the knitter interested. Inspired by the lovely Cape Breton, it represents land and sea, shoreline and coastline, forests and foraging. The finished project is a long buttoned cowl approx. 58”L x 11”W in worsted weight, easily wrapping around the neck twice without being tight. Super squishy for protection from the strong breezes late autumn brings. Techniques are: ribbing, buttonholes, eyelet, stripes, bobbles, seed stitch, and picking up stitches. It is knit flat, and advanced beginner-friendly.

We used approximately 140g/280m Colour A and 100g/200m of colour B. Colour A is best to be a solid or tonal colour; Colour B should be a contrasting colour and may be variegated, solid, or tonal.

This pattern was designed for September 2020’s The Great Canadian Yarn Adventure, where we celebrate Canadian dyers and designers with a quarterly subscription box inspired by different Canadian landscapes and landmarks with an acknowledgement and understanding of indigenous traditional territories as applicable.

Designed on the unceded land of the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.
