Wild Cherry Headband
Pattern Notes:
Wild cherry trees are one of the most beautiful things you can find in a English garden – the gentle flowers, shiny red fruit, slender rings on the bark and, of course those, glossy oval leaves. This pattern is inspired by the wild cherry that hangs above our neighbourhood; you’ll find a reflection of those leaves in the shape of the bow and the elegantly thin lenticels in the ribbed band.
It’s a super speedy make – taking maybe an hour to complete – that’s also rather therapeutically repetitive as you work your way around and around. The headband is worked flat in the round and in one piece so it’s nice and sturdy as well as simple to create.
And if you’re unsure about any of the stitches or techniques used, you’ll find a step-by-step photo tutorial on pages 4-6 to help you through.
The pattern is made-to-measure so you can achieve the perfect fit without needing to work up a gauge swatch, but you’ll find the best yarn to use for this project is something with just a little stretch and squish in it like a blend of cashmere, merino and silk. I used Debbie Bliss Rialto DK, Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino DK and Sirdar Cashmere Merino Silk DK, which provide a beautiful sheen as well.
On average, you’ll use approximately 25g / 67 yds of yarn depending on your head measurement, tension and chosen yarn. That’s just half a 50g ball in total.
You can style the headband however you wish – even using it to wrap around a ponytail or a bun – but I’ve included pictures to help you get the perfect bow when you finish the tie on page 8.
Happy crocheting!
