In Maine, spring is hard earned and hard won. Winters are long, and by the time green things start to poke up out of the ground it is worth REJOICING. Even the invasive wild mustard that comes up in my yard is a welcome sight. It is a delicious welcome to a season that will soon be filled with other green vegetables. This hat’s undulating stockinette cables are reminiscent of those beautiful green leaves rising from the earth. Written for four sizes, it can easily be adapted for a size in between as well. (To achieve a size between two that are listed in the pattern, you can either use an aran-weight yarn and needles of the appropriate size and follow the pattern instructions for the smaller of the two listed hat sizes, or use a DK-weight yarn and corresponding needles and follow instructions for the larger size. The hat’s substantial brim can be worn slouchy or folded up for extra warmth.
