This backpack is made for toddlers and smaller children to bring a comforting elephant friend for those first days at school or nursery. The bag has an elasticated top to make it easier to get into for little ones, plus a toggle closure for extra security. You can make yours as a backpack or without the straps to use as a pyjama case for a child’s bedroom (or when the backpack is outgrown, remove the straps to give your elephant a new life).

Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the backpack is knitted in aran weight yarns. This pattern incorporates both knitting in the round and also knitting flat using single pointed needles. The strap is an i-cord tube which is worked on two DPNs.

NEEDLES
A pair of 4.5mm single pointed knitting needles and set of DPNs or circular needle (US 7)

King Cole Comfort Aran (medium weight/10 ply); 60% acrylic/40% nylon; two 100g/202m skeins in grey.

One size only - The elephant’s body of the bag is 19cm wide x 5cm deep x 22cm tall.
