Wild Violets Shawl
The arrival of spring is marked with thick, green grass freckled with dandelions and wild violets. It carries warm wet air that is too cool for bare arms and too humid for sweaters - officially making it light shawl weather. The Wild Violets Shawl is shown in a deep green and soft violet echoing that first fresh growth. This giant shawl is worked seamlessly from a carefully choreographed sequence of sections and picked up stitches.
The piece is cast-on using the provisional cast-on method, then the left side of the center diamond is worked even, decreasing in pattern before removing the waste yarn from the cast-on and repeating for the right side of the center diamond. Each striped wing is worked from picked up stitches along the diamond’s top edge, decreasing gradually to a point. A simple garter stitch and lace border finishes the top edge of the shawl from picked up stitches along the top edge of the stripe wings. The bottom edge is finished with a simple and delicate chain bind-off.
This pattern is worked from both written and charted instructions.
