Wilder Future is named after a campaign by the Wildlife Trusts in the UK, encouraging people to pay attention to the wildlife around them, to make space for nature and to campaign for greater protection of our environment. Using a simple slip stitch pattern, one “wild” coloured yarn- which could be a variegated yarn, a striping yarn or some handspun (lumps and bumps of beginner’s handspun perfectly welcome)- and a plain neutral or solid yarn, this design represents the places where wildlife does still thrive in our human and urban environments. Peregrines nesting on cathedrals, ferns sprouting out of stone walls, newts in garden ponds… this pattern comes with a plea to notice and pay attention, and to recognise that a world where wildlife can thrive is beneficial for all of us.

The pattern currently is for one size only, but the stitch pattern is easily adjusted and I do anticipate adding more sizing information shortly. Alternatively sport or worsted weight yarn could be used with the current stitch count for smaller and larger sizes respectively.

All money raised from this pattern throughout the month of August 2019 will be donated directly to Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
