This hooded cape was designed to expose the elegant beauty of natural fibres and their traditional function as providers of warmth and protection from the elements.
With its generous hood, complete with tasselled drawstring, this is an oversize garment designed for comfort. Whether you call it a cardigan, coatigan, hoodie or poncho, Wilderness will give you all the warm and cosy feels!
Skills Used
This is a relatively simple pattern, worked top down with a round yoke, using a few fun techniques. The main body is made in one piece, then the hood and tasseled cord are worked separately and added at the end.
Materials
You will need 1250 - 1730m chunky yarn and a 6mm hook. Note that although the sample shown was made with chunky, I think a heavy worsted or aran yarn would also work for this design, but please check it meets gauge.
The version pictured uses Cascade Yarns Ecological Wool which is on the lighter end of the chunky yarn spectrum.
You’ll need one button around 15-20mm for the fastening at the neck.
Sizing
The pattern is written in 7 sizes from XS - 3XL in (to fit bust 76 - 136cm). It is an oversized design with about 40cm of ease in the body so if you want something more fitted you could size down. The pattern includes measurements of the approximate finished sizes and guidance throughout for making adjustments.
