Terms Used
K: Knit P: Purl st(s): Stitch(s)
K2tog: Knit two stitches together like they are one.
PSSO: Pass a slipped stitch over another, indicated sts
YO: Wrap the yarn around needle to create a hole. Also called “yarn forward”
This pattern is made for an adult. Finished product measurements as follows: (laid flat, double for full circumference)
- Brim: 11 inches with no stretch applied (can stretch up to 14 inches easily)
- Brim to top of hat: 9 inches with no stretch applied (can stretch up to 10 inches easily)
Model has a 23 inch head when measured all the way around. If using wool, you will need to block your hat. Sample shown in 100% cotton was not blocked. There is another lace repeat given in pattern in case you are a tight knitter. If using extra repeat, 140 yards will be needed.
Gauge is 4 stitches an inch. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions!
You will need:
1) 120 yards of a cotton bulky thick-thin yarn. 1 skeins of “billow” by knitpicks is enough for one hat. (100g each) After knitting hat I had enough left over to make a pom pom.
2) Size 4.5mm double pointed knitting needles or magic loop needle, and size 6.0mm double pointed knitting needles or magic loop needle.
3) Yarn needle for weaving in ends.
