The early winter wind ripples through the bare tree branches like waves across an unruly sea. Thawed and refrozen mud forms ridges beneath the matted lawn, entertaining to walk on and press back down to level. Behind the bare forest limbs, the sky is a gradient from periwinkle to pastel pink. Moonrise was early evening and the waxing gibbous hangs bright white and irregular just above the treeline. A few stars and planets have appeared--winter’s fireflies--shimmering and dancing from a vast distance. This wilderness is a haven, an unruly sprawl of rolling hills spotted with no-till gardens, contentedly grazing animals, and undisturbed nature. It is not a step back in time, but it is a step into peace. It is a sanctuary, a place that protects simpler ways and shelters those in need of refuge.

Mittens are worked in the round, seamlessly, from the bottom up.
Pattern is both charted and written. Mittens are modeled with approximately 2”/5 cm of positive ease across the palm.
