The Wildlane Top is my first knitting pattern, created to conjure up lanes of wild grass and nature. There are instances where we make plans to walk a straight path, but more times than not, our lives wander along different lanes, wild and beautiful. This top is to celebrate that, and to embrace the fact that we can be free in our choices, and in the end, it all works out.
This is a loose-fitting, boxy cropped top with recommended 4-6”/ 10-15cm of positive ease. The top is worked from bottom up, then split to work back and forth for the front and back separately, including the lace pattern.
Many parts of this pattern can be adjusted to the desired length if you prefer a longer/shorter top in general, or if you prefer a specific coloured part of the top to be longer/shorter. The intent of this pattern is to allow the knitter to make this top their own, making choices that work for them.
The Wildlane top is a great transitional piece for layering and can be paired with many different wardrobe options such as with a dress, bottoms, or thrown over a thin top for extra warmth.
I hope you enjoy this pattern, process of choosing which yarns to use, and wearing this garment for years to come!
