Willa Socks were inspired by my lifelong love of geometric patterns—first discovered in childhood doodles and later rekindled through the meditative art of Zentangle. These top-down socks feature a beautifully textured diamond motif worked entirely with simple knits and purls, offering a soothing, rhythmic knit that’s both engaging and relaxing.

Designed with versatility and comfort in mind, Willa includes two heel flap lengths to choose the best fit for your foot shape. You’ll also find instructions for my signature slip-stitch reinforced sole—perfect for adding durability to your handknit socks. Prefer a standard sole? No problem—the pattern includes both options so you can customize with confidence.

This pattern includes:

  • Complete written and charted instructions

  • Two heel flap lengths: standard and long

  • Optional reinforced sole using a slip-stitch technique

  • Tips for customizing sock length and fit

YARN:

1 skein of fingering/sock weight yarn (approx. 446 yds / 408 m)

Samples shown in:

  • Henlia Handmade, The Original (100% U.S. Rambouillet wool) in Mint Cone

  • Henlia Handmade, Bachelor (100% U.S. Cormo wool) in Cornflower

NEEDLES:

  • US 1 (2.25 mm) circular needles for Magic Loop (40”+) or 2 circulars. Pattern can be adapted for DPNs or short circulars if preferred.

GAUGE:

  • 37 stitches and 54 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in Diamond Pattern, knit in the round, blocked.

SIZING:

  • Adult sizing with customizable heel flap and sock foot length. Sock foot length should be approximately 90% of your foot length for best fit.

✨ SKILL LEVEL:

  • Easy. Suitable for confident beginners and beyond. You’ll need to know how to: knit, purl, slip stitches, work simple decreases, and knit in the round.

NOTIONS:

  • 3 stitch markers (1 unique for beginning of round)

  • Tapestry needle

  • 1–2 row counters (recommended)

  • Highlighter tape (recommended)

NOTES:

  • Pattern is written for Magic Loop but can be adapted for other needle preferences.

  • Long-tail cast-on is recommended, but knitters can use their preferred top-down sock cast-on.
