i really like hats with earflaps. i really don’t like how the flaps are inevitably knit in a different stitch than the rest of the hat. i also really don’t like how the flaps tend to, well, ‘flap’ in a wind (which is when you least want them to move at all). so, here is my answer to both problems.

knit in peace.

any bulky weight yarn that knits up to gauge will do for this hat. also a worsted weight yarn held double throughout would work well.

both double pointed and 16” circular needles are needed in sz 13 to work this pattern. it takes just a few yards more than one skein. if you chose to make the i-cords of some bulky scrap yarn, you could get away with one skein for sure. (if you are trying to use just one skein of the wool-ease and decide to add a crochet edge to the hat, you would have to make that of bulky scrap yarn as well.)
