In southcentral Alaska, a Williwaw wind is a sudden wild gale that rolls off the mountains. As a kid I loved hiking to Williwaw Lakes, and the motifs in this cowl represent the sub-alpine plants that grew along the trail: dwarf dogwood flowers, paperbark birches, and wild roses with big ruby rosehips. This cozy knit embodies everything I love about living in the north.

The Williwaw Cowl is worked in the round with a provisional cast on and grafted at the end for a seamless finish. It features adjustable sizing, and you can embellish the grafted area with embroidery or duplicate stitch to add a personal touch and make the project truly yours.

Finished Measurements and Sizing:

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large.
Finished circumference: (24.5”, 28”, 31.25”) / (61.25, 70, 78 cm)
Finished height: 7.25” / 18 cm for all sizes

Needles:

US 4 / 3.5 mm needles for working in the round, or size needed to obtain gauge. 14-16” circulars recommended, plus a second set of circular needles of a similar size for grafting.

Gauge: 24 sts and 26 rows = 4” 10 cm

Yarn & Yardage:

Hazel Knits Lively DK in Linen (color A) and Mabon (color B). 90% superwash merino, 10% nylon, 275 yds and 130 g per skein.

For color A (Linen) you will need (90, 105, 115 g), (3.17, 3.69, 4.04 oz) / (190, 221, 242 yds), (174, 202, 222 m).

For color B (Mabon) you will need (109, 123, 139 g), (3.85, 4.35, 4.92 oz) / (231, 261, 295 yds), (211, 238, 270 m).
