Willow Pom Pom Hat

A super versatile hat, the Willow Pom Pom Hat is perfect for fall and winter markets, or as a gift. It can be worn as a slouchy hat, fold the brim up and it’s a beanie, add a pom pom, or leave the pom pom off. The herringbone double crochet stitch, from the willow collection, adds beautiful texture and makes this a quick project so you can work up a hat stack in no time.
This advanced beginner pattern includes instructions for three sizes: teen/adult small (head measuring 20”-22”), adult medium (21”-23”), and adult large (22”-24”). Directions and count stitches for each size are color coded throughout the pattern.
It can be made with bulky weight 5 yarn or two strands of worsted weight 4 yarn. Yarn pictured is Lion Brand Color Made Easy. I have also used Lion Brand Hue and Me, two strands of Lion Brand Heartland, and two strands of Lion Brand Re Tweed.
Written instructions are included for slip stitches in the back loop and the herringbone double crochet stitch. There are photos provided for certain steps. The photos are all on one page, so you can leave that page out when printing to save some ink.

What you need:
Yarn - approx 120 (125, 135) yds of bulky weight 5 or 240 (250, 260) yds of worsted weight 4 worked with two strands held together
Hook - U.S. K/6.5 mm and U.S. M/9 mm or any hooks to meet gauges
Needle for weaving in ends
One pom pom (optional)
