Willow is a Will o’ the wisp from folklore. They are ghostly lights seen by travelers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. The lights are typically attributed to ghosts, fairies or elemental spirits. Tales tell of blueish lights appearing in the distance, leading travelers astray before disappearing into the night. In some tales, however, they are benevolent beings that give guidance and in some cases even lead the traveler to treasure.

Similar tales appear in folk tales from countries and cultures from all over the world. They have featured in movies, games and other pop culture such as Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Harry Potter, Disney’s Brave and Lord of the Rings.

You can make your own mythical wisp to bring a piece of magical lore to life with this pattern.
