This pattern was originally published as Starlight Knitting Society’s contribution to the 2022 Rose City Yarn Crawl, February 24th – 27th, 2022 in Portland, Oregon. This pattern is also available for download as part of the 2022 Pattern Collection: Bloom.

Willowherb (a genus of 4 petaled flowers) is inspired by an appreciation of the smaller, more subtle blooms found scattered around Portland - beside roadsides, in backyards, and growing in the cracks between sidewalks. While not as showy as their garden counterparts, if you look closely there is much detail and beauty to find within these plants. This shawl combines both texture and roosimine inspired inlay, a colorwork technique that adds an embroidered effect to the flowers, to create an engaging knit with a beautiful result. The floral details are knit into the shawl, not embroidered afterwards.
