Part two of my Tolkien inspired skirt trilogy, this design is named after a minor, but important, character from the third book of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Return of the King. Windfola is the name of the horse Eowyn rode into the battle for Gondor, the battle in which she slew the Witch King, leader of the Ring Wraiths. He could not be killed by any man, but Eowyn was no man!

I named this skirt after Eowyn’s mighty steed, because there’s just something about wearing a huggy pencil skirt that makes me feel confident, empowered and downright battle-ready. The cabled edge is inspired by some of the scrollwork that adorns the hall at Edoras, as well as armour and tack worn by the Rohirrim and their horses in the movie version of The Return of the King.

The skirt is knit in the round from the top down. It features a knit-in waistband casing and a braided cable with i-cord edge that’s knit onto the bottom of the skirt sideways. The edging uses a provisional cast-on and a Kitchener stitch at the end to finish it all off seamlessly.
