This is a thick, cozy scarf with a wavy band of contrast color. Colors are handled as in beginner-level intarsia, with instructions given. The scarf is worked in so-called mistake rib, which is (k2,p2) worked over an odd number of stitches, giving an exceptionally stretchy, lofty and warm fabric. A central river of contrast color (100g worsted weight yarn) winds back and forth between banks of a background color (200g worsted weight yarn), traveling one stitch per row. The smooth curve of the river is created by switching between traveling the same direction on every row and traveling back and forth on alternating rows. A recipe is included for converting the pattern to any gauge of yarn or desired width of scarf.

Clarification to pattern: in row 9, there is an instruction for “leaving one main-color stitch from the row below unworked”. This does not mean to slip or drop the stitch - only that at this stage in the row, one main-color stitch should still be unworked on the left needle. When beginning with the contrast color, work this stitch first.
