Window Cat Child’s Cardigan designed by Jennifer Raymond
Every cat owner knows this scenario: felines perched on a windowsill, staring at the world outside. Using the silhouette of one of her cats as inspiration, Jennifer charted a cat motif and began imagining a sweater on which they could “sit.” A garterstitch yoke on a relaxed raglan suited the quiet peace of a cat lounging where it could catch the sun.
Work the cats in intarsia for a fabric that matches the rest of the sweater, or work them in duplicate stitch after completing the rest of the garment. The cats are easy to customize (Jennifer chose gray and white to honor her cats Peake and Watson)— make each cat a different color, or give the cats stripes, spots, or patches. If you prefer your cats looking at you, add eyes and whiskers with embroidery thread or buttons.

Yarn Classic Elite Yarns Liberty Wool (100% washable wool; 122 yd 112 m/1 ¾ oz 50 g): #7849 lapis (blue; MC), 6 (6, 7, 7, 7) balls; #7817 brick (brown; CC1), 2 balls; #7803 slate (gray; CC2) and #7801 bleach (white; CC3), 1 ball each.
Needles Size 4 (3.5 mm): 32” circular (cir). Size 6 (4 mm): 32” cir and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers (m); stitch holders; tapestry needle; size G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook; eight (eight, nine, ten, ten) 1/2” buttons.
Gauge 20 sts and 28 rows = 4” in St st on larger needle; 20 sts and 38 rows = 4” in garter st on larger needle.
