Windows of History Shawl
The house on my farm was originally built in 1740. It is nearly 300 years old! There are many original features we are honoring as we renovate and bring the home to modern living. One of the first things we did was replace all the windows. Many didn’t open and they were so drafty, standing next to one in the winter felt like being outside. However, they are beautiful and I kept them all and hung some of them in my store as decoration. The others are stored here on the farm and will become something new as soon as they tell me what they want to be. Each pane is unique and separate. There are imperfections in the glass that add to the beauty. Take a journey with me as we step back into history, and explore the windows of my house.
This pattern was designed to complement my 2022 advent calendar. I wanted to make something fun that would show off the different colors and make the most of each mini. This rectangular shawl is pointed on each end to add to the interest. It has lots of texture and different stitches to make it interesting to knit. It is perfect for 12 mini-skeins of yarn, or odds and ends, or even just 2 or 3 colors of sock yarn you’ve had in your stash for ages. With all the texture, one color would work as well.
