Walking down a wintry Chicago street, thoughts of having a thick cowl covering my head and neck to escape the bone chilling air as my body and memory got reacquainted to its Midwest roots, had me popping in to the nearest yarn store for anything bulky with a bit of wool in it.

Additional instructions and cast on numbers for changing the width and height of the cowl are included, as is a basket weave pattern repeat to replace the 4x4 ribbing.
