Wings and Runes
Wings and Runes is a Nordic-inspired shawl incorporating syncopated brioche knitting (meaning the main colors occur in the pattern as both positive and negative), along with two-stranded colorwork. The piece is knit from the neck down, using deceptively simple Brioche and Knit increases to achieve the “spreading wings” motif. A panel of ancient Nordic symbols called Runes impart messages of empowerment to the wearer. This is a perfect pattern for the knitter who has dabbled in Brioche and wants to take it up a notch.
You’ll need 3 contrasting colors, in light, medium, and dark, roughly 250 meters/275 yards of each.
Needles: Circular US Size 6/4.0 mm in a variety of lengths up to 60 in./152 cm, and circular US Size 7/4.5mm 60 in./152 cm.
