The redbreasted Robin follows you everywhere you go in the garden or in the woods, the bullfinks visit the area to tell you that snow is on its way…., and the greedy greenfinches come to visit the feeding table from dawn to dusk.

My knitted winter birds are round, little birds to cheer up your índoor life:)) They are not expected to be true imitations of natural birds - they are just meant to bring a smile on your face:))

Perfect little give-aways easily made in an evening. Make them to cheer up your windowsill, your coffee-table, to decorate the Christmas-tree or some lovely branches of witch-hazel.

Construction The birds are made in two pieces: lower and upper body. Both pieces are worked flat, from the beak to the tail. The shaping of the bird is made using short rows. Increases are made using m1l and m1r, decreases are made using ssk and k2tog. The robins breast could be worked in intarsia, or embroidered later. The two pieces are seamed together, the birds are “stuffed” with some kind of fiber-filling. The tail (if you want a tail) is knit in the round.

Material I found that Jamiesons “Shetland Spindrift 2” was just the right wool for working my birds! The colors are amazing - and very “natural” and with washing and blocking it became softer, but still with a rough surface. You will only need some metres/yards of each color-way - so take advantage and make a flock:)

Notions separate holders (for the tail-sts), contrasting wool for the eyes and beak. You could also use small buttons or beads for the eyes. Fiber-filling of some sort.
